I originally purchased this product as a birthday gift for my 8 year old niece. She had never heard of this series and was a little uncertain about it, but her mother contacted me a week later to let me know that this series was a huge hit with her daughter who loves the slightly sarcastic little girl's relationship with her unicorn. Since that time I have purchased this box set for my own daughter (who was barely able to read it because her older brothers and sisters kept "borrowing" it for their own reading pleasure.
I bought it for my 6 year old granddaughter, because I was charmed by the comic. But it is not suitable for her because it uses words and terms not used in their home ("stupid" and "hate," for example).
Just FYI: Description says “hardcoverâ€, so I assumed they were all hardcover books. They are not. They are all paperback. The box that holds all the books is hardcover. That’s the only reason this is 4 stars as opposed to 5.Other than that, the few pages I flipped through and read, seemed great. Reminds me of Calvin and Hobbes, which is a bonus.
My second grader loves graphic novels so I got her these for Christmas. She had read one at her school library already, so she was very excited to get the set. She plowed through them in a few days!
I bought this for my sister because it was on her Amazon wish list. After reading some of the comic strip, I had to buy a copy for myself as well. This is very well written and quite funny.
I have followed this strip since it hit the Oregonian. I fid it charming and a bit disarming. Although aimed at juveniles, it's clever and teaches more than at first blush. Arrogance, humility, self-absorption, patience, hypocrisy, and sweetness are all part of the mix, and it's handled well and easily.The graphics and dialogue are also easy to absorb. A fun and warm strip.Note: I'm in my seventies, and I bought it for an ex-addict in her 40's because she's nuts about unicorns ( or as the strip says; "unique orns" as opposed to "common orns"), and she loved it. Whatever feels good!

Fantastic books, my daughter who is 7 absolutely loves them. We now have all 8 books. It reads like a comic book. It is about 200 pages per book.
