After taking and passing the HESI I can safely say don't bother reading this book. You buy it for the code. If you buy the code separately it appeared to be more expensive than just getting this book with the code in it.Nobody has time to review this book while in nursing school. Period. If anything read only the material you feel you are weakness at.I won't be reading any HESI book again.However, I do HIGHLY recommend you do ALL the practice exams (USE THE STUDY MODE) this book has available online which requires you use the code. You need to get an idea of their tactics so you can better answer their Qs.Also know that in the actual exam, they break all the rules. That's to say all the tactics you learn by doing the practice exams go out the window. HOWEVER, by sticking to the tactics you learn from the practice exams you can PASS the HESI. So that's that!And they will throw random nursing care questions during the exam that you won't have a clue how to answer... That's why figuring out their tactics by doing their practice exams is so very HELPFUL. You learn their tactics best by answering a Q and seeing their rationale and figuring out how they mislead you or you mislead yourself in answering the Q (whether you got the Q right or wrong).After taking the HESI exam and reviewing the rationale for the Qs you missed I recommend you jot down notes (or memorize it) on how they mislead you in the Q or what you could have known more of etc before you end your exam. Afterwards, write the lessons you learned from taking the HESI and save it somewhere because they will not let you take any notes home (unless you decided to memorize them). The reality is that you will have to take more than 1 HESI exam in your nursing career. Anything you learn you in the process will be beneficial.Best of luck!

I purchased this book after failing the Hesi Exit Exam the first try. My school gives you 3 tries. I didn't take it again until 2 1/2 months later. Which was much needed. I studied at my own leisure everyday. I read the entire book cover to cover, did the online questions and the questions that came after every section in the book and wrote down and reviewed the rationales until I completely understood each one. Well.....I PASSED THE SECOND TIME. THANK YOU GOD!!!!! I hope all that purchased this book has as much success as I did.

Helped me pass my Hesi exit exam for my school. I had a hard time passing, it took me 3 tries. I bought this book after the first 2 tries and it was amazing.Itâ€™s not too thick and breaks down things just right, itâ€™s just all the information you need, no fluff.It also comes with a CD that is similar to the Saunders book that I have. Perfect amount of questions, not overwhelming at all.I would recommend this book to anyone trying to pass the hesi exam and even for the NCLEX!

This is the volume where things get interesting - for those who have watched the anime that is - since here we reach the point where the anime stopped and get to know how to story goes on. I was super excited to know how things will turn out, how the members of class 1-A are developing. To my surprise lots of declaration of rivalry happened but at the same time it makes me happy since this will create the opportunity to get to know them better, in deeper depth.I won't say more, not wanting to spoil anything. But if you liked the previous two volumes you will like this one too.

I bought it for my boyfriend for Christmas since we're collecting all the MHA and MHA:V volumes. It's in great condition.

I like this series. My biggest beef is that deku doesn't really use a lot of his powers in this volume. Sure, he uses his brain to come up with a great strategy. Maybe thats the point, but a whole volume and one full action arc still is unwinding reminds me that this is indeed a shonen manga. The character development is real as opposed to contrived by allies saying deku improved (I hate when a manga does that). This will be a good read, pick it up to finish the amusement park arc, but be aware another arc is just begining.

Pretty great! I really am enjoying this series, i only wish it would have more frequent releases. Seriously one of the best shounen mangas i've experienced in a long long time.

Opposite of Fate, Amy Tan's other nonfiction book, is one of my favorite books by her, so naturally I had to pick up Where the Past Begins. I sat down to read the essay "How I Learned to Read," expecting cozy musings about, I dunno, Beatrix Potter, but it suddenly turned into a rollercoaster ride of a read, and I was almost shouting out loud as I read it! To think I thought that Tan had told all the stories she possibly could about her family. Her essays on writing are illuminating and honest, where she even very candidly discusses her failures, and even her work emails to her editor are pleasant to read; for someone who has had a crazy life as Amy Tan (arrested by Swiss police as a teenager! Mother threatened her life with a knife! Lyme disease!), she sure seems cheerful and clear-eyed.

Iâ€™ve always felt a kinship with Amy Tan. She is the daughter of Chinese immigrants; Iâ€™m the daughter of German immigrants. She understands going to school and being different from the other kids, having parents who are different. She is the same age as me, and she married her husband around the same time I married mine. I feel like weâ€™ve lived parallel lives.Amy Tan would be annoyed I presume to know her. In Where the Past Begins, she says, â€œI am not the subject matter of mothers and daughters or Chinese culture or immigrant experience that most people cite as my domain.â€ Oops. Thatâ€™s entirely what I think about her books. So apparently, Iâ€™m mistaken. I donâ€™t get her at all. She goes on to explain, â€œI am a writer compelled by a subconscious neediness to know, which is different from a need to know. The latter can be satisfied with information. The former is a perpetual state of uncertainty and a tether to the past.â€ Tan writes to understand who she is in this world. She often explores old family stories in her work, copiously researching to learn what is historically accurate and how circumstances impacted the people who came before her.Where the Past Begins grew out of Tanâ€™s editor, Daniel Halpernâ€™s, suggestion that she write a book about her process, based on â€œsome of the thousands of e-mails I bombarded him with during the writing of The Valley of Amazement.â€ Tan didnâ€™t like the concept, and Iâ€™m glad because the book is so much more; the one chapter that consists of some of the e-mails is not as interesting to me as it was to Mr. Halpern.The rest of the book blends together the story of her life, her parentsâ€™ lives, and even her grandmotherâ€™s too-short life; itâ€™s fascinating reading. Much of her writing process is described, especially concerning The Valley of Amazement. I am comforted somehow to learn that Tan suffers from the same insecurities that I and so many of my writer friends doâ€”that the current project will never be finished, that it wonâ€™t be good enoughâ€¦There are photographs, too. Some of her grandmother, her parents, young Amy and her brothers, and pictures Tan has drawn. I love the pictures of Amy in the 1950s; they could have been me in my fluffy-skirted dresses. Her Christmas picture shows a tree decorated just like the ones from my childhood, with individual strands of tinsel meticulously hung from the branches; my family owned a TV just like the one standing in the corner of the Tan living room.Tan details some of the devastating pain in her life: the deaths of her older brother and her father from brain tumors within six months of each other when she was a teen; her mother's battles with mental illness and Alzheimer's disease.There are surprises, as well: I didnâ€™t know Tan has a Bachelorâ€™s degree in English and a Masters and Ph.D. in linguistics.Reading Where the Past Begins makes me want to reread her earlier (2003) memoir, The Opposite of Fate. I suspect some of the same facts appeared there, but Iâ€™d forgotten.Where the Past Begins is well worth the investment of time and money, especially if you like Tanâ€™s novels. As a lily-white American of European heritage, I found reading about Tanâ€™s family history compelling and enlightening.

Utterly fascinating and informative read. As a writer, it got my mind really thinking even further about the process. Amy Tan is an honest, superb writer whatever she writes. Anyone aspiring to write should read this, and anyone interested in the writing process should read it, too.

Like so many individuals over the ages, Lee Miller grew up in a relatively small community in what the media currently refers to as "Fly Over Country." A member of a talented middle class family, she enjoyed every advantage that her parents could provide, which was considerable. From an early age she displayed a thirst for adventure. She fled to Paris to study and fell in love with the Latin Quarter before returning to America. Moving to New York City she stepped into the path of and on-coming car and was pulled to safety by a well-dressed stranger. In shock, Lee babbled in French causing the stranger, Conde Nast, to take a closer look at the young woman he'd just rescued. He was impressed and asked her if she would like to come to work for one of his magazines--Vogue. At age of 19 Lee became a cover girl for Vogue and was dubbed the embodiment of the modern girl. She was the official model for the legendary "flapper." Soon she was in demand by most of the most famous photographers in America including Edward Steichen and Arnold Genthe. Tiring of being just a New York celebrity-model Lee was soon back in Paris where in a single day she became the traveling companion, mistress, model, muse, photography assistant and student of photographer Man Ray. Through him she became a member of the Surrealists and lived and moved among the great artists and writers living and working in Montparnasse at the time. Her early associations with these world famous artists would change her life. Under Man Ray's tutelage she slowly began a transformation from being in front of the camera to being behind it. She eventually received additional photographic training at the Clarence White School along with another soon-to-be-famous woman photographer Margaret Bourke-White. After marrying a wealthy Egyptian and going slightly crazy as a member of the "Black Satin & Pearls" expatriates living in Cairo, Lee found her mission in life by another unlikely event rivaling her earlier "Grace Kelly-like" discovery by Conde Nast. World War II broke out while Lee awaited its predicted arrival in London. Unbelievably she was soon working as a war photographer for Vogue magazine. Through her good looks, charm, talent and stealth she was soon the only woman photographer covering the front lines of the European battlefront. World War II was the highlight of Lee's photography career. She took to being a successful war correspondent like a duckling takes to water. She was tireless, talented, resourceful and finally fulfilled through accomplishing important work. Changed by her war experiences, (an early example of Post-Traumatic Stress) she never quite received the same sense of satisfaction for her later work, but she was no longer as restless after having fulfilled some indefinable need in her naturally adventurous personality. For a beautiful woman (Picasso painted six bare breasted portraits of her during one summer), she was able to shake off the handicap of being a NY celebrity and actually accomplishes some important work that fulfilled her innermost needs. She was no longer just Lady Penrose, but her own person with her own considerable accomplishments. When Queen Elizabeth knighted her husband fellow Surrealist Roland Penrose in 1966, it didn't turn her into a snob. She sometimes jokingly referred to herself as "Lady Lee of Poughkeepsie." There is a lot of humor in this biography. Here are two choice lines, paraphrased, neither of them by Lee: ..."brevity is the soul of lingerie" (Dottie Parker) and on the subject of a new brand of women's underwear for the well-dressed wartime English women, "One Yank and they come right off." "The Art of Lee Miller" by Mark Haworth-Booth is an excellent companion book to Burke's biography because it reproduces many of the photographs discussed, but not shown in the biography. Lee Miller was notable for her beauty, her famous artist friends, her photography, her sense of humor and her infamous sexual exploits. Except for a few boring moments during her "Black Satin & Pearls" experience in Egypt, this exhaustively researched book is difficult to put aside. During the hours spent reading the WW II segments I would stop reading and find myself disoriented to be back in the present time and not on the European battlefields. That's powerful writing at work.Lee Miller was much more than Vogue's personification of the "quintessential flapper." The reader can have fun comparing the Vogue cover of 19-year-old Lee as the epitome of the stylish modern New York woman with another picture of her washing off six-weeks of hard-won war correspondent grime while bathing in Hitler's personal bathtub in his captured Munich home. Unfortunately, she reported the bath reminded her too much of her recent, terrifying photo coverage of the liberation of Dachau and it's "bathhouse gas chambers."

I bogged down in the first half of this book. I was annoyed that the author didn't mention whether Lee's rapist was ever prosecuted. Child abuse is so upsetting. After that, Lee's years as a beautiful young woman in Paris who was as sexually "liberated" as the hippies of the 1960s was frankly boring me. I put the book aside for several months, but then picked it up again and got into the war years. This was absolutely fascinating. Lee was amazing as a photo journalist in WWII. She was a remarkable woman. This book gives very interesting glimpses into the war and post war Europe.

An amazing life only told in a so-so way. I forced myself to continue but it didn't get better.

Writing about Lee Miller is like writing about Earnest Hemingway. It can't be anything other than fascinating. Miller lived an extraordinary life on both sides of the lens. Her young body captured by her lover Man Ray (and her father) is a thing of beauty yet so are her incredibly arresting images of everyone from Charlie Chaplin to a broken and beaten German prison guard. Miller knew what she wanted and like Hemingway, let nothing or no one get in her way. And, like Hemingway, once she achieved it all, disillusion wormed its way in along with pills and booze which took her beauty and damaged her sense of humor. My chief complaint with this book is the amount of time Carolyn Burke dedicates to describing Lee Miller's images rather than showing them. It's the difference in describing sex and having it.

Model, journalist, photojournalist -- her participation in coverage of World War II in Europe was both atypical and showed splendid bravery.

Although the fighting was not hand-to-hand, it was close enough, and I was thankful to be alive when the smoke cleared the next morning. I still have a VC flag we pulled off the wire, but that is another story.Unlike some novels, â€œTrackersâ€ leaves the reader with a sense of completion. The Epilogue is an awesome wrap-up to the series. As Raven, one of the main characters, reflects on his fallen comrades, â€œHe wasnâ€™t thinking about how they had died - he was thinking about how they had lived: Honorable, brave, and selfless.â€ I think about my classmates who died in Vietnam every day. I mourn their loss but give praise and thanks for their example of selfless service to our country. I have pledged myself to live my life in such a way to honor their sacrifice.Although a work of fiction, the threat from North Korea is real. The â€œTrackerâ€ series serves to inform and prepare us for the unthinkable. The â€œTrackersâ€ series is destined to become the jewel in the crown of post-apocalyptic mystery-thrillers.

When I find a product I believe in, I shill like there's no tomorrow. It's a good day when I stumble across a new good writer. On a whim, I purchased Nicholas Sansbury Smith's collected bundle of his Trackers series, which was available for download on the cheap. If your jam is grid-down, post-apocalyptic reads, you should be all over this.Me, I've been on a months-long rag, binge-reading post-apocalyptic survival novels. I've read some great ones, some okay ones, some crap ones. The Trackers series, all four books, falls in the top shelf category. Crazy thing is, when written as well as this, you're filled with the sense that this stuff could actually happen. And, sometimes, the writing's so convincing that you start thinking in terms of not "actually could happen" but, rather, "it's a matter of when." Like the best post-apocalyptic survival reads, Trackers makes me want to go out and start stocking up and buy generators and look into homesteading and read up on canning and building Faraday cages and such.Story's set in the quaint tourist mountain town of Estes Park, Colorado, of which claim to fame is its notorious Stanley Hotel, inspiration for the Overlook Hotel in The Shining and the location shoot as Hotel Danbury in Dumb and Dumber. And what I've figured out is if a massive EMP takes out the nation's electrical grid, it's best to not be in the city. Would rather be in a rural area.It helps that the author not only seems to know what he's talking about with these doomsday scenarios, he's savvy with character writing. The folks he introduces are easy to root for, whether it's the police chief or the nurse or the senator lady who used to be a combat pilot. The most showy character is Sam "Raven" Spears, the troubled half-breed and ex-marine who sometimes reluctantly helps out the police chief when a tracker is required. It's thru Raven that the author incorporates these pretty neat elements of Native American folklore, of which my favorites are the myths of Shunka Sapa and the creepy water cannibals.The dope thing about binge-reading is that you can just go from one book to the next. With Trackers, there isn't a weak link. All four books are hard-hitting, well-paced, and character driven. Not everyone makes it out alive, so be careful who you get invested in.Extreme saber rattling. A battered America. A government nearly obliterated. No power. Supplies dwindling. Estes Park - with its 10,000 inhabitants, including tourists - becomes a microcosm of the unspeakable horrors taking place across the nation. I got caught up in the pulse-pounding action, and the last ditch heroics, and in a town's struggle to survive as the townspeople are theatened with street gangs, neo-Nazis, serial killers, and cowards and politicos from within. I love it that the author finds spots to weave in the occasional plot swerve. To me, the most surprising turn is the help that comes from an unexpected ally - that most of us would assume is an enemy - and how that turns out. Very well done.There's only one thing that really bugged me in this series. In the second book, Colton was demoted as police chief. Yet, in the third book, he's back to being police chief. I went thru much of that third book feeling salty about such an egregious lapse in continuity, and, when it finally does get addressed, it's only this passing mention. Grrr. But, hey, that's my only nag.I wouldn't at all mind a movie treatment. Or a mini-series if it's on cable or Netflix. I'd love Colton, Detective Lindsey Plymouth, Charlize, and Nathan breathed life by good actors. Mostly, I want to see Raven onscreen, with his swagger and bad attitude and his twin hatchets and his loyal white Akita dog, Creek. Anyway, Trackers was such a great read, it's convinced me to dive into the author's Extinction Cycle series. Bar's set high.

I purchased all four of these books when they were released and I loved reading all of them. They are an intense series of stories about a post apocalyptic United States after an EMP attack from North Korea. Americans find out that sometimes your worst enemies may even be your next door neighbors and domestic terrorists.The series features a great set of characters and villains and the story just keeps you turning the pages with intense action and disaster. You root for your heroes to survive and to try to recoup some of the sanity that America had before the war.Nicholas Sansbury Smith is an outstanding author and I like all of his books. He has a good writing style and a practical experience in the ability to use his past work experience to bring the story alive. It is the great detail that he writes with as well as the ability to imagine all of the possibilities of such a war that makes these stories great!I highly recommend this series and the price for all four books is a real steal.

My favorite Ritchin's book.

I am looking forward to getting my teeth into this book. This was suggested by a professor of mine. Study and ye shall learn.

Photographers certainly know how to simplify their subjects and how to put a frame around a portion of the world so that nothing impinges on their image. However, perhaps because they look at the world through a viewfinder, they sometimes seem to miss not only the larger world around them but the place of their photography in that larger world.Fred Ritchin, who teaches photography at N.Y.U., believes that the method of capturing images changes the world and that the world changes the method of capturing images. In a some times rambling essay, the author looks at various aspects of photography, with an emphasis on the changes wrought by the digital world. On the one hand he decries the easy malleability of the digital image, and on the other sees opportunity for greater understanding through the digital photograph. He explores possible uses of digital media in the future in ways that reminded me of the world of Neal Stephenson's 1992 science fiction novel "Snow Crash (Bantam Spectra Book)". (The Wall Street Journal recommended reading "Snow Crash" for a view of the future; better hurry up before that book is overtaken by events.)Ritchin complains about the uses of digital media as a means of invading privacy and at the same time suggests that its use can aid humanitarian causes. Although he sees the possibility of either, or both, great benefits and great costs, he does not suggest what photographers can do to direct digital media toward the benefits. Furthermore, after exploring many bold possibilities, he seems to come down for the use of photography on the internet in sites that give the viewer options in how to examine the pictures presented by hidden captions or links of portions of pictures to other sites or similar techniques. It seems a simple direction for a book that aims at lofty goals for digital photography.Ritchin is primarily concerned about the world of documentary photography and ignores the role of the digital in art photography, although I suppose that his interest in websites that present the viewer with options to follow could be bent to artful use as well as documentary.While a well turned phrase is always appreciated, often the author's prose turns purple, or takes a flight of fancy, as when he suggests engaging an image of his long-dead grandmother in conversation.The book is interesting and makes some valid points, but on the whole, it looks like the author had collected notes over the years and decided that no thought could remain unuttered. It will be hard for photographers, viewers and students of media to develop a useful picture of the role of photography in the future from this book.

Ritchin provides great examples of innovative uses of photography with new media today (web sites, artist's projects...) although he doesn't suggest much as to 'what's next.' He lays out important questions about authenticity with regard to digital photography and the 'truth' behind a photograph. He explains what he calls 'hyperphotography' as the new interactive web based format for photographs. I don't know if his idea about scrolling over a photo to 'see more' will catch on but he definitely got me thinking about the potential for new technologies in photography. This was an interesting read and I appreciate the reproduction of some great photographs.

This is a fascinating look at the future of still imaging. I hesitate to use the term photography because photography as we know it is moving toward the same state as oil painting or watercolors. The creation of a still image using silver halides or bleached silver halides and dyes has moved from a mainstream activity to a niche activity performed by wild haired artists with berets and goatees. This book explores that and what it means to the idea that a photograph reflects reality (and delves into exactly what reality is, and how stills reflect differing views of reality).This book is a must read for people interested in the future of still imaging, and interested in shaping and participating in that future.

I enjoy this book. I arrived on time.

I got the book quickly - within a week - and it cost a fraction of what the school bookstore was charging. Not to mention the book came to me in better quality than stated. It's practically new. I will never purchase books at the school bookstore again.

The projects developed in this book, are not always just taking 2 days, but they can be achieved through out a week, taking into account times of drying and then grouting. It is not for a person that is just starting the very first first projects, but they are quite feasible. I would recommend the book, for new ideas, and some useful projects. I would have loved to see a bit more of explanations about how to make them, the explanations are well, in general, but they lack of details. I am happy with the book, as the language is very comprehensible and the illustrations are also good enough. A book to add to any mosaic student's library.

Not knowing where to start with a mosaic project I thought this book would be a good introduction to this craft. I was right and am on my way to a new hobby. Strongly recommend !

I really liked this book as it was filled with simple, yet easily followed ideas. There's always room to insert your own ideas as well. I would recommend this book to all who like to take a basic idea and run with it! I'm a novice at mosaic work, but the designs in this book are easily adaptable to my level.

This is a well written book, that expounds on the traditional and spiritual aspects of the feast. It goes in details about what is mentioned in Leviticus 23, tie that up with the Jewish customs and then clearly explains it in the setting of John's book of Revelation. It is an easy read and very informative for non-Jewish Christians.

The book gives some good information. I would liked to have had more about Christ and the Feast and not the material at the back of the book on recipes, etc.

A fascinating read, easy too. This book helped me get an "A" in a Bible course.
