Truly one of the silliest books I've read in a long time. The whole premise, that the Shroud would be wandering around in exhibition with token security, is just silly. Combine that with the author's poor understanding of the relevance of the Shroud to Catholic beliefs, his general inaccurate portrayal of Catholic practices, and boatloads of typo errors (things are made of "metal", but not of "mettle") -- another book that seriously lacked editing and proofing.I gave it a second star only because as a long time student of the Shroud and its theories, any story about it at least peek's my interest.
Amazing Book: Holy Shroud, Order of Thaddeus - Book 1. I think the author, J.A. Bouma has done more for Christian Apologetics in this novel than many have done in non-fiction writings. I kept having to tell myself “this is a fiction novel.†However, the research behind it from the Latin derivation of SEPIO to the Neutron Flux test is amazing, accurate and true. It is Christian - but not preachy. The action keeps you guessing as to what will happen next. And there is enough “wiggle room†in the plot to anticipate a sequel, which I can hardly wait to read. I would recommend this book to anyone interest in the Shroud and it’s implications for the faith. I found it amusing when Bouma referred to the Hymn, “Because He Lives†as “an old church hymn†1971? The book is very well written and he has a way with words! PTF
I am an avid fan of all literature that pertains to Jesus, his life and times! As such, I have been following all news items and publications that have been brought out about the shroud of Turin. So, with great eagerness and anticipation I started reading this book and I was not disappointed.From the start, the beautiful narrative kept me engrossed and glued to the book until I finished the last page! The style of writing is fabulous, the characters are very real and appealing ( including the doubting Sebastian! ) and the end maintains a certain sense of zealous anticipation to read the others in the series! For a scientist like myself, it was fascinating to read all the scientific evidence described in the book!Thank you for a spellbinding adventure, Mr. Bouma.
Just finished reading Holy Shroud, and upload the second book; can't wait to see what happens next. I love history and Jesus so whenever there is a book that combines both I give it a try. This book was informative, action packed, and kept me interested. The main character became real and likeable, as well as his family and friends. As I said before I can't wait to start on the next book.
I found Holy Shroud the first book in the Order Of Thaddeus series by J. A. Bouma to be highly entertaining and a real roller coaster ride! If you like the sigma force novels by James Rollins or Steve Berry's Cotton Malone series you might like this series. It provides plenty of rollicking action adventure while also giving insights into the Christian faith. Not to be missed!
Skillfully oven into this exciting plot is a ton of mind-blowing scientific facts about the Shroud of Turin. It is a truly fascinating and compelling read. Highly recommended if you're curious about the Shroud. If you're not curious about the Shroud now, you most certainly will be after reading this book. Congrats to the author. Job well done.
As a fan of Rollins and the Indiana Jones adventures, I was surprised by how much I likes this new group of characters. Bouma holds his own with a good plot and effective writing. Starting the next in the series.
Excellent action adventure story with the Shroud at it's core. Fast paced page turner. Hard to put down. Will be following this author and this series. Well done Mr. Norma, thank you!
