I am really enjoying this book as a daily devotional, but it can be read all the way through if you want to. I can just hear Jonathan Cahn speaking as I read as I have listened to him so much on the Christian shows I watch. If all of Israel's priests had been like Jonathan, the Jewish people may not have been taken into captivity to Babylon or dispersed throughout the nations as they would have had priests teaching the people about God and living a godly lifestyle. I have enjoyed reading all of his books.

This book is a MUST read for any Christian trying to get a deeper understanding of the scriptures. I don't often write a review, but this book deserves 50 stars. I have been a born-again Christian for over 40 years and some of the truths revealed by Jonathan are super faith building as you find how God connects the dots through His wisdom and planning. Some were so new to me that I was not sure about them so I had to do extra research to check them out. They were always found to be right on! I am only half way through the book, but did not want to wait to recommend it.

You can read this book straight through as it tells the story of a disciple as he learns from the teacher; or you can read this book as a devotional, one lesson that is learned each day. It is a POWERFUL book. Each day's story has a moment that opens your eyes and your heart as to how much God loves us--and how profound His love is. The stories build on each other in the overall theme of the book---God loves us so much and He has a plan for each of us that leads to our becoming One with Him. It is a book that will give you much to think about---365 days worth---surprising you with how intricate God's plan has been from the beginning of time--if you only knew how to discover it. This book will show you how to discover it. At the end of each page is "The Mission"---a way to turn the concept of the day's story into the reality of your life. The Scripture background for each story is also provided for further reading. I cannot recommend this book enough. It is an easy book to read, but each lesson shows amazing insight and depth. The ideas are presented in new ways that are beautifully written and will change your life.

This book is intricately written and reflective. Be prepared to take a journey with The Master Teacher. The Holy Spirit walks you through a beautifully guided teaching about God in relationship with you. The book is reflective and leads the reader to a more in depth view of God's Purpose in his or her life. There is also a deeper understanding of Holy Scripture. Highly recommend!

Not familiar with this author but not I am going to look for his other works. This book is set up as a one year devotional with a different lesson/topic for each day, with scripture references and a daily application "mission". It links Jewish tradition with Christian beliefs that never occurred to me before. It also is teaching me some Hebrew words and how they relate. It's set up as a teacher giving a student lessons and it reminds me of the TV series, Kung Fu. I keep expecting the teacher to say "Well done, Grasshopper". An informative book that I find myself reading more than one lesson at a time. This book will be useful to anyone wanting a closer walk with God.

Jonathan Cahn is a favorite of mine and this is his best work in my opinion. He is not the greatest novelist. But his wisdom and insight into jewish history, mysteries, and customs is unsurpassed by any other. His unique talent of bridging the Old Testament with the New is throughout this book and is greatly needed in todays world. His wisdom as a Messianic Jew is of tremendous value and rare insight. The book typifies this through explaining many unique customs and ancient practices that have been lost. His ability to personalize it for todays world demonstrates tremendous insight and wisdom unmatched by current scholars. I'm amazed at the depth of topics he cover. My only dislike is that I did not care for the format of being presented as a daily quotes calendar. I thought that cheapened it a bit. His other books over exhaust a particular points, so this format was not what I'd expect from him. The book's style limits it's capacity as a page turner and leaves me longing for even more details about ancient mysteries with some of the topics. But the flow of easy to read single page concepts makes for quick spiritual feeding. The concepts in this book have been a wonderful study companion to my LDS faith, but those of any faith can find a benefit from it as his recommended principles applies to all. Thank you Jonathan!!!

Interesting and enjoyable to read. However, how much can be taken as God's honest truth and how much is subjecture? With little or no references given a great deal of research would have to be done on the readers part before acceptance of each mystery. Even accepted truths are subjest to the opinion of the author. A popular title, written to be a bestseller, not a work of theological research. A point to be taken in to consideration when facts and opinions are presented. Mysteries given should be taken with a question mark attached.

This book is the Finest Devotional type of book I've Ever Read!!. Once again Rabbi Jonathan Cahn has written a book that needs to be read by all. It is meant as a daily devotional, but it is hard not to just keep reading and pondering over the nuggets of wisdom along the way. He is a great teacher with great insight into the word of God and has no problem telling us what we need to hear, even when the lesson is a hard one. I would recommend this book, along with all his others, to anyone wanting to be uplifted and learn about some mysteries of God's word presented in a way you can't help but enjoy learning from.

This review is for the e-book. It's completely unformatted. Can't jump to chapters, page number lines in the introduction interject haphazardly into the different pagination of the e-book. I feel like some of the text probably has some slightly special formatting in the print version, but in the electronic version it comes out scrambled and out of sequence. Really half-assed and sloppy. Not worth $9.

Besides being one of my favorite composers, Oliveros is a lucid author, synthesizing in this book an important part of her experience as listener and composer. Many of the exercises that she presents in her book are effective for developing awareness on the sound environment and the own sonic life. Besides that, this book has been inspiring for my own work as teacher and composer.

Pauline Oliveros presents alternatives for musicians (and listeners), no matter what genre they are camped in. As a jazz performer, teacher, composer I consider her contributions to improvised music to be as important as Charlie Parker's, John Cage, etc. Her approaches are open to all and help bring about inner peace.

This book has some really insightful content about our relationship to sound. The rest of the book, which has long descriptions of meditative practices, is not very informative. The practices aren't significantly different from what you might find in other approaches to meditation, and it's hard to understand how they relate to the author's art.

This is focused material for a focused readership interested in the underpinnings and exercises in Oliveros' Deep Listening approach to meditation and music. This slim volume collects the apparently small amount of written material that Deep Listening has produced with respect to actually preparing oneself or a group for deeper and broader awareness of and involvement in the soundscape, and applying these listening techniques to music and all aspects of life. In specific, there are some brief philosophical essays by Oliveros, listening exercises and composition challenges, and reports by workshop attenders and Deep Listening practitioners. I read the book in preparation for attending a performance by the Deep Listening Band, and while I was sympathetic to the aims and goals, I was disappointed that decades of professional work had been summarized in such a cursory and haphazard way. The performance, by the way, by Pauline Oliveros (accordion, electronics), Stuart Dempster (trombone, electronics), and David Gamper (keyboards, electronics), was transcendent and left me in an altered state.

Pauline Oliveros has devoted more time and effort to understanding how listening effects the life form than anyone else I have encountered. From the moment I met her some forty-plus years ago and we became both friends and colleagues, Pauline shared with me her profound interest in how environmental sounds affected both her musical performance, her composition, and her sense of self. This 'listening beyond hearing' led her to expand her understanding of how focused sound perception can function as a gateway into the moment, into the Now. Inasmuch as all sound occurs only in the present moment, it can function as a natural path to the meditative experience, taking us from focused listening (concentration and one-pointedness) to the wider, relaxed state of Deep Listening, as she has named it.This book contains the summation of the author's Deep Listening experience in her research, composition, performance, workshops, retreats and classes. It includes as well some fascinating essays and quotes from her students. All in all, this compilation will serve as a valuable guide not only to musicians and composers, but also to anyone interested in a coming to a deeper understanding of themselves and their interaction with their sonic environment.

Boy, is this not what I expected. Having heard some of Oliveros's music as well as that of other artists available at the Deep Listening web site, I had not realized how much of her approach to the practice of Deep Listening involved straight-up New Age notions. This book offers descriptions of Tai Chi or Yoga (or whatever) practice--eg, the Swimming Dolphin ("...Repeat the same motion opening the next chakra, then the third chakra...then the eyes, the third eye, and then extend the arms upward with palms open gathering energy from the universe."), or the Dragon Tail ("The floating palm is sensing and gathering energy as it passes each energy center"). There is emphasis on posture for meditation ("Imagine a golden thread shooting out of the crown of your head to a distant star"), practices like The Heart Chant ("Can you imagine that the heart energies are joining together for healing yourself and others?"), and so on. Though there are passages about mindful attention to music and the soundscape, they are, for me, overwhelmed by the material on yoga, meditation, and New Age practices. No criticism is intended--it may be for you or not, but I felt that a more explicit description was needed here of what sort of book this is.
