The author's strength and resilience in the face of her own personal struggle with her addicted son give hope and inspiration to those suffering a similar battle. I admire the author's mission to break the silence surrounding addiction by educating about the disease and guiding parents of addicted children to find their way to serenity. And perhaps, most important, to keep loving their child through the ravages of a disease that leaves no one unscathed. The author has turned her deep pain into a precious gift for others. I have no doubt this book will change lives for the better.
Loved “The Joey Song†and also love Sandy’s newest book “Tending Dandelionsâ€! I can pick up either book, read a paragraph and get the perfect reminder to take time for myself, remember that I did not cause my child’s addiction and, even though we lost our son to this horrific disease, feel a sense of peace overcome me. We WILL be together again and in the meantime I will do my best to live my life to the fullest just as my son would have wanted his family to do.

I've loved Sandy Swenson's books so very much. The Joey song is wonderful I suggest that to everyone who has a loved one who is in active addiction. This book is no different. It's like a hug when you need it the most. Daily reminders that we are in this together and no one should face addiction alone. I love this book.
I lost my son in April to an overdose. This book is so truthful about what families especially mothers go through with the addiction problem. She hits the nail on the head with each page...
I gave this book to several friends and it was very helpful to them. Cathartic really, to read and know they are not alone. Sandra puts into words so many things about the disease of addiction; how it affects a parent and other family members. Really emphasizing how to help the person and NOT the addiction, and mostly, how to help oneself if you are the parent or sibling or friend of an addicted person. Most of the time, these things are VERY hard to put into words, but Sandra does it beautifully, in a compassionate, non-judgemental way. This should be in every counselor's bookshelf.Thank you Sandra. You have helped many by sharing your experiences and feelings through this book. Wishing you the very best!
I don’t write many reviews. Too lazy. Too busy. I’m making an exception. This is THE greatest book to read of thoughts on addiction from a mom’s view. If you’re going through this, you will see yourself on almost every page. It will give a voice to all the thoughts you haven’t been able to vocalize. And it will make you feel as if you’ve done the best you could with the trial you’ve been given. And that your best is enough. I can’t say enough good about this compilation of thoughts!
