My 15 year old daughter loves to write, but had a bit of a block for a while. Since reading this book and applying the material, she has started writing again and is loving it! Highly recommend.

My Son didn't get 10 pages into this without stopping and applying what he read to a short story he wrote. He wrote the story without knowing much about his characters, they didn't even yet have a name, after applying what Seize The Story suggested about characters he not only had names for them but he did individual character sketches! He drew them, described them, and gave them each a background. It was amazing! That's only ten pages in, it's already worthwhile. Amazing

"Seize the Story" is an amazing book. It reads like a novel; with a "can't put it down" style. While geared for young adults, it is for anyone who has ever written, wanted to write or thought about writing. It breaks writing down into steps that build on one another like a recipe. The simplicity is ingenious. Victoria Hanley captures all the elements of writing, and isolates them one by one, with an incredibly engaging style making writing accessible in a way I never would have dreamed. I recommend this book to any writer, or aspiring writer, of any age.

The great thing about this book is the way in which it motivates the young writer. It is a good starting point for teens as well as adults. A teacher asked me if they could borrow a copy for a lesson plan they were putting together. Excellent resource.

I have read a number of writing books. Most are quite helpful about one aspect of writing or another. This book, Seize the Story, is helpful from start to finish. From working with characters to really explaining what goes into a plot, from juicy details about setting to interesting perspectives on how to get over writers' block, it was all enthralling. The best thing about it was the way it pulled everything together. I am not a teen writer. I got this book because I want to write YA. I got what I needed most, because Seize the Story communicates encouragement along with writing tips. I plan to do every one of the writing exercises as I go over my own manuscript. This book was even a good read, full of story examples I enjoyed. The interviews at the end with other authors made it obviosu what the author was saying all along, that every writer is different and there's not only one way to go about it.

I like every aspect of this book. Well written and interesting to read with examples that are not boring. Of the many related books I have read, this one gave me ideas and explanations I had not seen elsewhere - important and helpful explanations. I would purchase it again.

Reject ALL preconceptions and set aside traditional objections to Yahushua's claims of being THE promised Messiah and Son of Elohim. Examine carefully the facts for yourself. If Yahushua is indeed who He claims to be.... then those of us who truly seek YHWH will want to know the truth. The implications of such knowledge is vast and eternal. Michael Brown meticulously researches everything. His claims are thoroughly documented and his reasoning is flawless. One of the weapons which he uses in his arsenal is a praiseworthy knowledge of Rabbinic writings from the Talmud to the targumim to the Zohar, the writings of Josephus, Rashi, Maimonodes and others. Seamlessly, he paints a picture of the nature of the Messiah as it is woven throughout the Tanach and literally reinforced by extrabiblical Rabbinic and Jewish documentation. Michael Brown not only captured the essential Jewishness of Jesus but, in the process exalted Him in such a manner as only the Messiah, the savior of the world, the light to the Gentiles and the glory of the Jewish people can be exalted. By the time I'd finished the last chapter I found myself reciting a personal doxology!To the praise of God, I believe we are entering a new era in the saga of Christianity. Jesus is finally being revealed to the world as the Jew that He is! And I'm convinced that God has equipped Dr. Brown as one of those to be a point man in this great enterprise.

About the Author

A recognized innovator in spreadsheet instruction and highly regarded pioneer in business analytics, Dr. Cliff Ragsdale is the Bank of America Professor of Business Information Technology and Academic Director of the Center for Business Intelligence and Analytics in the Pamplin College of Business at Virginia Tech, where he has taught since 1990. He also holds an M.B.A. in Finance and B.A. in Psychology from the University of Central Florida. Good treatment of spreadsheet analysis with explanations of using Excel. Focuses on Excel 2013 but it looks like any version would work. Comes with downloadable Solver package (this is not the built-in Solver that comes with Excel). Downside: You need a course code (available from your instructor) to install it and it's only good for one semester. I paid almost $300 for this book. The software should not expire. We are not using it in the course and instead rely on the built-in Excel functions and Analysis toolpak. I'm deducting one star for this software restriction.

A book that doesn't explain much math and relies completely on print screens of excel. I've spent most of my semester reviewing on Youtube and have had much more success than that of recreating excel sheets in this paper weight of a book.

The ideal users for, "Spreadsheet Modeling & Decision Analysis" are students enrolled in Supply Chain Management 460 at Iowa State University, or the equivalent to the class at another university. The durability of this textbook deserves three stars on a five star scale because the condition on the front cover and the spine of the textbook are worn down. The content inside the textbook is legible, as there are many graphs you will need to study for exams that can be understood. This textbook is very helpful for the user because it gives instructions to access, “Analytic Solver Platform” which is the excel program used in the class. The quality of the pages is problematic as some are ripped and the content is difficult to read. The efficiency of use for the textbook is excellent as the authors make a point and then direct the reader to the supporting material and graphs. An example would be the author, Cliff Ragsdale, informing you about the objective function you will be implementing in an excel document, then proceeding would be a graph showcasing how to implement the objective function. The functionality for future generations may pose a challenge due to the non-professional matter of the cover, binding, and some pages. However, the helpful step-by-step instructions to access “Analytic Solver Platform” and the visual representations of the analytical steps in assignments will hold well for the future students and class cycles.

I found this text overly complicated and devoid of real world application. the excel screenshots are appreciated, but the lack of tie in to actual business applications was frustrating. There are also only one or two examples of each problems type. It would be great to see more examples dn better explanation of some of the background math. Only as good as your instructor. The book alone is inadequate.

Typical textbook about what it says it really gets to the theory and application. I would recommend this for small businesses looking to grow. Do some comparative analysis coupled with modeling and war gaming. It will help you in the long run with potential expansion.

Easy to follow instructions that go hand in hand with our class instruction. Well written and easy to understand, only negative is a relatively high rental price. Due do the involvement of software always changing, I recommend renting and not buying.

It's a good, however, they are no answers to the problems at the end of the chapter. You cannot check your work.
