Huh... Bit of a time warp reading this book...Bearing in mind this book came out just before the internet took off, laptops were still quite hefty devices with hard drives in the megabytes not terrabytes, and a cell phone was a flip case gimmick with painful 12 key texting and... well, really, with this book set in the near future of the 1990s, it is actually surprisingly readable!Fortunately, the premise of the book is not about our modern day world with computers, hacking etc. This is a book set about technology being used to satisfy the demands of the elite few- something we are probably even more familiar with in 21-teens than we were in the 1990s! And once you get through the first 15% or so of the book where you are puzzling over how a book written in 2005 can not have smartphones and internet, the story moves away from having to rely on that kind of technology to more familiar tech that people wish worked today..I don't want to give away too much of the plot - its described in enough enticing detail if you are contemplating buying this book. Suffice to say, like most Neal Stephenson books, this is a highly satisfying read, unputdownable and its going to keep you turning the pages into the wee hours of the morning. Not sure what J. Fredrick George did for this book - provided some of the history that pops up in a non-distracting way? The story line? Not sure - it reads like a Neal Stephenson novel, but more like Reamde or D.O.D.O. which I found to be really good stories from start to finish.However, I do wish when the publishers 'reprint' books, it is clear when the book is first published - especially for for science fiction! It is highly confusing to read a book that seems to be set in the 1990s when its "publication" date is the 21st Century!

Brilliant book by a marvelous pair of writers. Complex, but not too hard to follow, entertaining characters whose lives you care about, pacing that is sometimes slowly lingers over poignant moments, sometimes races ahead like the best of thrillers, brilliant insights into the businesses behind politics and the nature of human beings, a delicious science-fiction conspiracy plot, a deranged killer, wonderfully realistic characters, a man struggling with a huge disability, and one of those stories were every odd disparate puzzle piece dropped down for your consideration fits neatly in the end to provide the entire picture. I haven't been this entertained by a novel in a long time.

As a huge afficionado of Neal Stephenson, and after enjoying Cobweb, another novel by Stephenson and George that has held up well in the past 25 years, I was sadly disappointed by Interface. I'm sure it was an enjoyable novel in its time, however, unfortunately it does not hold up well 20 years after the setting of the novel. Too much has changed in politics, society, and technology to enable suspension of disbelief for this book.

Interface posits a new computerized device that can be implanted in a person's brain that can help the brain recover from the effects of a stroke by re-making some of the neural connections destroyed by the stroke, with the side 'benefit' of allowing a two-way communication path to an external computer. This device is installed in the brain of the Governor of Illinois, who becomes a Presidential candidate. The story follows his campaign and the slow gain of complete control of his mind by a shadowy Network that financed the research for the device, directed by its media control arm as embodied by a virtuoso of a campaign/advertising manager. As the other side of the equation, another device is introduced, a very much enhanced version of a lie detector that can deliver a person's emotional reactions in real-time to whatever he is experiencing. These devices are given to 100 people who represent a complete cross-section of the American voting public, and their reactions to campaign events allow instant feedback control of what the candidate should do/say to maximize his appeal.The story reads as a high-suspense political action thriller, with a very dark sub-text of there really are powerful, world-spanning conspiracy groups who are intent on molding the world solely to their own benefit. While the prose style is adequate and straightforward, Stephenson's normal cynicism, hysterically funny irony, and satirical stabs at the world are almost wholly lacking here, and the net result is something of a poor copy of a Tom Clancy thriller. Characterization is thin and uneven; even the Governor is little more than a cardboard setup. I felt the final plot resolution was forced, with certain unnecessary elements, and is probably politically impossible, which heavily detracted from his overall thematic message. A great idea, but could have really used the Stephenson we found in Snow Crash.

Seems like it may be happening with our current president. Only with a lunatic at the controls.

Wow! What a book! I read 2 times already...I honestly felt that book was written for me. My father was an alcoholic, I am the oldest of 3 siblings and I totally ifentified with this book. This book has helped me understand a lot of things about my adult behavior. This is one of my favorite highlights:"To be a good COA, you were called upon to deny the alcoholism and other family problems, subjugate your developmental needs, hide your emotions, please others, pretend you were happy and be a “perfect daughter.” Those behaviors do not produce happy childhoods, let alone healthy adults."Now I understand why I always want to help others, especially those that resemble my dad's behavior. I had no clue I have somehow become codependent...But there is hope...

Absolutely so helpful to me. Recommend this book to anyone who is affected by alcoholism really. This book explained the behavior of every one of my siblings, including my self because of my father's alcoholism. So grateful to read about all this so I know I'm not alone in this horrible situation. I usually loan out books after I've read them but I'd rather buy this book again if someone needs it and send it to them because I'm keeping this book to refer back to when I'm depressed and feeling low about the situation. It really did give me the necessary confidence to realize it really isn't me....and that I have to separate myself from toxic people if necessary to protect my self.

I got this as suggestion by friend. It's great to relate to others who are ACA daughters as myself but I feel the author is referring too much to the 1980s and before rather than new evidence that has come out that is really helpful.Glad this book exists for those who need it.

This book was recommended by my therapist who is also an ACOA. I started this book with the intention of proving her wrong. I had no idea that nearly all of my current issues were tied so deeply to my childhood experiences (due largely to my detachment which was explained in thorough detail). It was incredibly eye-opening! Knowing what the true problems are is a tremendous relief, and it will make it so much easier to move on.

Throughout my whole life I felt excluded, lost, confused, and a stranger to myself. After recently looking for help I was told to read a book about adult children. Throughout reading this book I've started to better understand myself, my path, my past, and hope for the future. I highly recommend this book!

I have been having a lot of the issues that other ACOAs go through. I have a tendency towards perfectionism, sometimes to the point of not even starting something, because I know that I wont be perfect at it. This book, while interesting to read, wasn't enlightening. I didn't really learn anything from it that I hadn't learned from other more informative ACOA books, and I felt that it didn't fit me and my issues. It also seemed very generalized, for a book specialized towards "perfect daughters" It covered a wide range of personality types, and the ways that a daughter of an alcoholic learns to cope, just not what I 'thought' a perfect daughter was.It would be a great book for those just beginning to explore this subject, and could probably give some a feeling of not being alone in their pain.

Amazing book. I didn't realize the impact having an alcoholic parent had on me. I love that parent but the behavior still had an impact. This book gave me great insight on how that experience has contributed in good and bad ways to who I am today. It also helped answer questions I had about myself that I didn't realize were tired to having an alcoholic parent...ie anxiety. Highly recommend this book

It was hard to see myself written on pages, which lead to a lot of tears and a lot of forgotten memories. BUT it was a breath of fresh air to know I wasn't alone. For my own sanity I read pieces at a time and took a slow pace. But this book helped me see the beauty of the "Curse" that was bestowed on me, and learn to use it to my strengths. I loved how it explained how people may react to your recovery process which was something I myself was struggling with. I would recommend this book to any daughter of an Alcoholic.

This great quick-reference guide is for sewists of all skill levels. Highly recommended.The excellent full-color book covers machine-sewing of 101 different fabrics. Everything from African mudcloth to weather-resistant synthetics.I got a hardcover, spiral-bound copy of the $24.95 book in mint condition on Amazon Marketplace for only $7.50. The $26.95 update is a softcover book with only a few more fabrics and some updated notions. Nothing that can't be found for free online.

This reference is a must for any & all sewing enthusiasts! Textile & design Students, teachers & the everyday home designer MUST have this book. I have a personally signed copy from Sandra Bettina from years ago that I use religiously. Don't know what type needle or seam finish for your fabric? You ll find the answer here as well as other useful fabric facts for everything from cotton to crepe. I've given several for gifts to some of my design students & was sad to hear it's out of print. I purchased an excellent used copy from Amazon & it was accepted enthusiastically!

This book is a valuable book to have in any sewers library. The book gives you not only information about the fabric but hemming suggestions,along with stitch length,thread,type of interfacing to use, needle size needed, optimal seam finishings, presser foots and whether to pre-shrink or not. OH ANNNDD its spiral bound. Definitely a must have book.Love It!!!!!

As long as this doesn't include real swatches it should include more detailed close-up views of the fabric. The garment photos in the "Fabric Fact" that are supposed to represent the fabric are pretty useless and take up half the book pages. I suggest they dump the garment photos and include various close-ups of the fabric showing grain and bias views. That would be much more useful along with the very good "Working With..." practical, detail information which make up the other half of the pages. I would rate the "Working With..." half of the book five big stars! I would rate the "Fabric Fact" garment photos a big, shouting zero. The text on the "Fabric Fact" page is, however pretty good.

A life saver. I cannot express how important it is to have a book that explains if and how to pretreat fabric BEFORE clothing production. It explains thread needs, needle sizes, helpful sewing feet, material content information and traits, all kinds of useful facts when designing a garment or anything in fabric for that matter.

The book is padded with biographical CHAPTERS on multiple cast members -- material that has been already been covered in other books, often at greater length & depth. One hopes (in fact, demands) that when the topic is something that has received a lot of attention in a lot of books, that the new entry brings a fresh mind to the table with, at minimum, a new spin. Alas, not here. The above-referenced padding is a dead giveaway that this author has NOTHING new to say. In fact, he has nothing to to say. And, he does it poorly to boot. He thinks Dutch betrayed Angel. Anyone knows that the mother of the girl he killed ratted him out to Mapache. Dutch merely had to go along with it, having been been put on the spot. this is hardly the same as "betraying" Angel. (However, no doubt that some bookhouse lawyer will enthusiastically split hairs like any dumb damn fan boy.) On page 126 there is an indisputable factual error. The author says that Holden and Hepburn fell in love making SABRINA when both were already married. SABRINA was filmed in 1953. She married M. Ferrer in September 1954, just as the film was released. When I read that, I wanted to throw the book in the trash. I still might.

I had great hopes for this book, but it covers no new territory or has anything really insightful to say about Peckinpah'smasterwork. Really it is just a fan boy's love letter to the film. The author often knocks other films to enhance The Wild Bunch's reputation, which is unnecessary and often questionable. The author goes out of his way to dismiss the Western scores of Elmer Bernstein, especially for The Magnificent Seven but Jerry Fielding's excellent score for The Wild Bunch often uses the same orchestral tropes Bernstein does, and is in no way innovative or unusual.I was also troubled by his reference to Eli Wallach as a "Jew." Which I guess he means Wallach should not play a Mexicanlike his role in Leone's The Good, The Bad And The Ugly. I love The Wild Bunch and it is ill served by this stupid fawningbook.

This is a well written and thoroughly researched book. It goes far beyond merely analyzing the film The Wild Bunch and the career of its director, Sam Peckinpah. It also offers a partial biography of Peckinpah, biographical sketches of several of the other key people involved in the making of the movie, chunks of history about Hollywood and western films, contextual historical information about U.S.-Mexico border relations that influenced the plot of the film, etc. Reading the book is an educational experience. The only qualifier I will put on this positive review is that some might find the book too exhaustive. You have to care an awful lot about The Wild Bunch, Peckinpah, and the film industry from the era, to want to take in all of this information. The content could have been cut by a third or more, and the reader would still have come away with a deeper understanding of the topics mentioned in the subtitle. So it's just a matter of how much information you'd want from a book like this. But in any case, it's written very well and is highly informative.

I've loved The Wild Bunch since it first knocked my socks off on opening day in 1969, and I lost count of how many times since. If I find it on cable, I watch it. And it works every time, just like the first time.This book is totally worthy of this movie. What a helluva story!

A wonderful history of the making of a classic film and time. Any fan of western or of movies in general will enjoy it. Also a very informative telling of revolutionary Times in Mexico

There are films that make history and gain undying reputations simply through a trick of timing: "The Jazz Singer", for instance, is not only unwatchable today, it virtually was in it's heyday (and, it was NOT-of course- the first "talkie"), but it's place is secure.Conversely there are those films that bring nothing new to the form but just do the old stuff so much better. There isn't a single thing in the "Godfather" films that weren't in place in "Little Caesar" or "Scarface (the Muni version) or "Public Enemy". But Coppola does them better, smoother, and with better actingThere are VERY few films that can lay claim to both being unique/influential AND one of the best of their genre. In crime films there's "Touch of Evil"; In westerns... hell, in drama as a whole, there's "The Wild Bunch"There have been any number of books, articles, panel discussions, about this masterpiece, but it was in desperate need of someone who combined the talents and know-how of a Westerner, film-buff/historian, and (and this is the kicker) poet to bring it all togetherW.K.Stratton is that author, and this is the DEFINITIVE book on the "Bunch" in all its aspects

This will not disappoint. Stratton misses nothing. If you don't read this one, you're just egg sucking southern trash, just like some animal, just another two bit redneck peckerwood.

I actually gave them my copy and ordered another one for my kids.I think i am going to get a couple of more to pass it to all the kids in my family.Each section has the translation and a short background in simple English which is easy to read even for adults.I highly recommend this for kids and even for adults.

As far as translation, it is the best I have seen so far. However, the background/introductions can be more clear and on point. They are not the type of introduction that you would remember after a while kind of not coherent, or most important of all help you understand the context. I gifted this for my niece, but when I read a few pages I could remember much vividly from my childhood what the background of the Aya's were than what was written in segmented vague way by this translator.

This is a must have for every Muslim family with kids that are in need of an English interpretation to the Quran. It's language is so easy to understand ( my son is in third grade and can read it on his own) . Plus in some verses it does not only interpret the meaning but also tells the story behind it . I actually ordered more of it to give it as gifts to other Muslim families .

Love this Qur'an translation. It is simple and clear, which is so hard to find. I also LOVE the background info provided throughout. Although it's titled "for school children," adults will appreciate and learn from this as well. The language and concepts are also for older children. My 11-year-old mostly understands, but some of it is above my 9-year-old's head.

This is a nice translation to read with children. It has some pictures in it that sometimes capture my 5 and 7 year old's attention. The translation is too difficult for my 7 year old to fully comprehend but when we read it together I attempt to break it down even further for them to understand. They have come to enjoy spending 15-20 minutes a day with me reading the Qur'an together. My only wish is that if it could have been broken down into a number of volumes. Sometimes kids can get intimidated by picking up a book so big and heavy. Also, it would have been nice if it had more pictures and if the pictures were in color rather than black and white.

As a teacher I find this book can be a great reference when trying to explain Qur'an to children in simple terms. I really like the way the author, Yahiya Emerick, took the time to explain the stories behind each surah even with all of the details. He does so very well and in a manner that is very child friendly. Alhamdulilah. As with any resource, however, it is important to take time to verify the accuracy of the author's interpretation. I wouldn't rely on this book as the only resource for teaching Qur'an to children. Other sources like Tafsir Ibn Kathir etc, can serve as reliable references as well.It's a thick heavy book and the cover looks exactly as is shown in the picture.

It made my 23-year-old roommate STFU and stop fighting with her boyfriend. They would sit in their sleeping bag and concentrate to find Waldo, Walda, Odlaw, the wizard and that stupid dog. They would follow Waldo's adventures, learn to share and excercize their minds. Excellent gift for a hobo who lives in a tent with two other people, and who just needs some peace and quiet. Instant silence. The book is fun and is a funny work of art as well. Would recommend to anyone young and young at heart.

Always wanted this book as a child (born and raised poor and never had a shot at it) and so I bought it for myself for Christmas. My only complaint is that I finished finding Waldo in all the scenes in about fifteen minutes, and found the rest of the "can you find" to be equally easy. Should have tackled this book as a seven-year-old child rather than a 59-year-old man in a tinge of nostalgia. But nothing wrong with this book...for children. It did help get me through a rather lonesome Christmas day.

Some low resolution pages mar an otherwise amazing coloring book. I never knew I needed this in my life. Wonder if the UK version has higher quality printing. You shouldn't be able to see individual pixels!

I read some of the reviews after ordering this book...and it made me a bit nervous. Vampires? Happily, this is the same delightful book I remember, and I have loved sharing it with my grandsons. I have to admit the paperback version has a different "feel" to it. Waldo seems to fit best with a hardback book cracked open on a table, but that doesn't affect my rating. Beautiful and interesting scenes, looking at all the other characters is just as much fun as finding Waldo et. al.

I got this for my four year old because the Disney look n finds were too easy for her. While this is actually a great balance of challenging and fun for her, the content of the pictures in this book is a little disturbing for someone so little. I realize he's walking through history, but I shouldn't have to explain to someone so little why people are being burned at the stake, eaten by lions, etc, it's actually pretty graphic unfortunately

Wonderfully challenging. We have had it for about two months now and still can't locate Waldo on all the pages. I really like the challenge and it makes the book last longer. I would have been pretty disappointed in fact if we had been able to locate him on all the pages on the first day. Illustrations are beautiful and very very detailed. Each time I look at the pages, we discover new things that we missed previously. This book it great;

This is another book which is one in a series, one which is far more intricate and challenging than earlier ones, Parents with small children should start with the first WALDO books and move on to increasing levels of difficulty as the child ages. The object is to locate the real character Waldo amidst al the wanna-bees, pretend Waldos and other characters similarly dressed. The later books in the series, and this is definitely one of them, are full of jam-packed pages that parents and kids can work on together, for many years, with books of increasing difficulty. These are books which parent can use with their older children as well, and that can help keep up bonded relationships at times when they are growing closer to their peers.

They don't make them like they used to. This is a regular bound hard cover book. It will not hold up better or longer than any other hard bound book. Pictures are blurry compared to the original books.

Praying is somewhat of a lost art with people. Getting yourself to pray for more than a minute leads to a grocery list of wants like God is a drive through of desires. This book will help you bring your prayer life into prospective and bring you to a quite place. I would recommend you set aside all other reading and focus on this book for a short bit. Dig deep into yourself and find that desire for a relationship with God. The Celtic way is not the only way. It is a simple and back to basic type of thinking. We live in a fast pace world, put on the brakes and see what the Lord has for you here.

The Celtic Way of Prayer was very informative. It's not just about Celtic prayer, De Waal gives us a brief history of the Celts, their values, and how Celtic Christianity devolved. She includes traditional Celtic prayers and blessing throughout the book. I had a difficult time with this book because it covers a wide range of topics other than prayer, and I felt interrupted by the many prayers. I would have preferred the prayers and blessings be at the back of the book, instead of crammed in between DE Waal's thoughts. I found they interrupted my train of thought, which was frustrating. So this book did not flow for me, instead I fumbled through it twice. Neither did I like the prayers. They just don't do it for me.

This is the most beautifully written books I've ever read. I will re-read this over and over and over again. I found Esther on youtube teaching about Celtic Christianity and then searched for her books after I found out she was an author. I will be happy to buy the rest of the books she has written as well. She draws you in with her words and takes you on a walk through the Isles and highlands back to the place when everything was a struggle but the way of the Lord was clear and straight. His Presence was in every task, in every seemingly mundane job - Making them all a divine assignment. Following Him is the most joyous place to be whether in the year 593 or 2017. Thank you Esther and many blessings to you. This book is unforgettable.

One of my favorite books on prayer. De Waal gives background information on the types of prayers uttered and then laces the text with beautiful prayers. The prayers are definitely my favorite part. With the background info given, it's easy to imagine the older men repeating their journey prayers or the housewives praying over their homes at night after the children have gone to bed. A wonderful read.

Wonderfully researched book presenting the faith and culture of the Celtic Christianity through primary sources! I recommend for every one looking for a new perspective on challenges of current culture through the eyes of the ancient and enduring Celtic way of prayer and understanding.

What does imaginative Christianity look like? Why are Christians so afraid to use their imaginations in prayer, preaching, teaching and serving? We've fallen prey to the "if it looks like a duck, it must be a duck" philosophy of Christian teachers who believe that Church History didn't exist prior to the Reformation and that "spirituality" is a "four letter" word that shouldn't be used by Christians.Esther De Waal does an excellent job of presenting this ancient prayer practice without the "starry eyed" nature of wishful thinking.

Combines history,folklore, and liturgy in a way that engages the whole person and focuses on the relationships and interdependence of all creation. It will appeal to all modern prayer-seekers.

This is a wonderful book for those interested in learning more about Celtic spirituality. If you've ever read anything by Esther deWaal this is another of her down-to-earth books full of her own unique wisdom and spirituality. It is a book that opens up those of us brought up in a more traditional religious background a different approach of relating to God especially through the world around us.

When McNall was a kid, his dad wasn't emotionally available, and, as a result, McNall grew up with a need to be liked. An oversized need, actually, which is why, he says, he defrauded several financial institutions out of $236 million. As a teenager, McNall was fascinated by ancient coins and soon became one of the world's leading collectors and dealers. Later, he got into horse racing, creating ownership syndicates that included the rich and famous. He bought a movie production company, a Canadian football team and the L.A. Kings hockey team. He brought Wayne Gretzky to the U.S. and, in 1992, was appointed chairman of the National Hockey League. Alas, ethics weren't a part of McNall's voyage to millionairedom. He abused his position to buy ancient coins well below the wholesale price, smuggled coins out of Tunis, paid under-the-table commissions and, before long, graduated to fraud. Taking payment for coins he had not purchased and using assets that didn't exist to secure loans, McNall was essentially operating a loan pyramid. By the time the FBI came to call, his company had nine different sets of books. McNall got 70 months for his crimes and offers a detailed but unconvincing account of the rigors of minimum-security federal prison camps. Very entertaining read here for old Kings fans of the Gretzky era. McNall sadly had some things catch up with him all along having good intentions for all he knew. Really sort of sad story but a good read for those thinking of taking on debt also. Bruce McNall trated me well as a fan. He did a special thing for me that I will never forget and be in debt to him. During the 1993 Stanley Cup playoffs being a season seat holder, If I had wanted to attend the playoff games I would have to had bought the entire 4 rounds as a package. At the time I could not afford it. I handed him a small hand written note explaining how much a fan I was and that I just wanted to attend the Stanley Cup Final Home games. Which that season I'm sure he was saying to himself, "I doubt the Kings will even make it to the Final". Well, a few days after I handed him that note, he had the Kings sales guy sell me the tickets to the Stanley Cup Final home games. The salesman was not happy but Mr. McNall came through for me as a fan, and that was the first year the Kings made it for the first time in franchise history to the Stanley Cup Finals. Anyways, I always wished I could have said thank you to Mr. McNall but never got the chance. Sadly the Kings didn't win the Cup then, but it was still great I was there thanks to Mr. McNall who if people that read this book will realize that he IS a stand up guy. He paid his dues and this book is an insight into the world of fame and fortunes but always sadly being a step back. It was a great read for a GOOD MAN that should have gotten still to this day much more fame than what happened to him. If it wasn't for Bruce McNall, there would be no Anaheim Ducks, no Tampa Bay Lightning, no Florida Panthers and no Staples Center to this very day. It was basically all his doing regardless how he got it done. The LA Kings organization should be ashamed for not giving him more credit and recognition for what he accomplished. Imo, The Kings wouldn't even have the 2 Stanley Cups today had it not been for him bringing Gretzky to LA and fans and making hockey a big thing in Los Angeles. He is a GOOD MAN that deserves much better and tells it all in this great read. I wish Mr. McNall the best and hope to someday have him sign my book.

Great tale of a very Romantic life. My hats off to McNall!!Coins, Art, Auctions, Smuggling, Deals, Handshakes, Race Horses, Billionaires, Commodity Trading, Movie Producers, Beverly Hills, Investments, Sports, The FBI, and a hardworking guy who made it big, paid a big price, and never lost his sense of humor.I really liked this read.This guy did more by age 30 then most men could even dream about in a lifetime.

Worth every bit of the one cent I paid (and the +$3.99 postage). Actually, it is a good tale told by a man I new by reputation long before he got in trouble so I really enjoyeed the book.

Bruce McNall's story was one that was very interesting to me as I was a Kings season ticket holder during his years owning the Kings.Story was well written. It is a must read for fans of Wayne Gretsky coming to the Kings.

Just as he did in making LA Kings games a wonderfully popular attraction for hockey fans, McNall is providing heaps of fun for us in this memoir of his rise and fall. When watching a magician at work, we know the purpose is entertainment, rather than truth-telling; so, too, this volume is not a true soul-bearing confessional that reveals the internal demons that led McNall to a life of huge financial crimes. His deepest confession -- that he simply wanted to be liked too much -- clearly is a superficial revelation, but we know that McCall intends here to get us to like him (not to really understand him); although a different kind of book that truly exposed the dark side of his being would have been an important contribution, McCall instead succeeds in providing us here a thoroughly enjoyable few hours attending to his breezy recounting of his many colorful, if unlawful, achievements and a summary recounting of how they inevitably led to a 5-year detour behind bars. The worlds he traversed -- trading rare coins, breeding and racing thoroughbred horses, feature-film-making, and building winning sports franchises-- provide enough entertaining vignettes for many books (and many lives!), and we can be thankful that he crammed so much writing into such a manageable and readable volume.

The author, Bruce McNall, was no doubt a flawed individual who got swept up in some schemes that would ultimately send him to prison; yet he had a great deal of charisma which oozes through the pages of his book.This is a guy who certainly knew how to get people to buy into whatever it was he was "selling" at the time, and his perspective on his wild ride into the craziness of big business, professional sports, and of course, Tinsletown, make for an extraordinary read.Although his antics were a bit devious at times, McNall provided a fascinating look into the events that shaped his destiny, and really gives anyone a lesson into how fleeting fame and fortune can be when mixed with the volatile world of money, power and influence.That's a dangerous combination and should be handled with extreme care. McNall handled it with great abandon, but his honesty in revealing his flawed approach to certain aspects of life made for quite a compelling narrative.

Bruce McNall is a man who gained and lost a substantial fortune. How could a book detailing his experience not be entertaining?His memoir is at its most interesting as he is ascending from humble beginings to a place of wealth and affluence. It's a familiar story, but McNall's tale has a freshness to it. Somehow a coin dealer's evolution into a sports mogule is novel.Oddly, the book loses momentum when the author is shuffled off to jail. I doubt anyone picked up Bruce McNall's biography to catch a glimpse inside prison life, but his descripion of it is painstaking.Still, the man is a likable figure, and his story is an enjoyable one.
